Honors 211 B- Jerusalem and the Holy Land
Course Description: "Few cities in the world are as revered, contested, and complex as Jerusalem. In this seminar, we will carefully investigate the place of Jerusalem and the surrounding '"Holy Land" in the history and imagination of the Western world. The chronological scope of our investigation will span more than two thousand years, extending from King David's designation of Jerusalem as his capital ca. 1000 BC to the Crusaders' conquest of the city in 1099 CE."
I love history, so I found this class very entertaining! I didn't know very much about Jerusalem and had no background in archaeology before this class, which proved to be a challenge at times, but nevertheless I greatly enjoyed the subject material. My favorite part of the class was the student presentations since it was a great way to look more in-depth about a particular detail of Jerusalem's ancient, convoluted, and tumultuous history. As a bonus, Professor Walker would often bring his lovable dog to class!

Included below is my final paper for the class, which discusses the building of a Roman temple in 22 BCE on the coast of Israel. This was my first true full-length research paper here at the UW, and as such I felt a bit lost writing this paper, since I've never written anything involving so much research before. But overall I was satisfied with how it turned out!
